I've been pondering this for some time. As we know, Mike's got a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Would you hold out your hand and buy your next motor from him?

Kinja'd!!!

Pros:

- Seems like a decent chap.

- Probably wouldn't risk his "nice guy" public TV reputation by being a dick as a car salesman or flipping lemons.

- Is apparently genuinely a car enthusiast.

- You could say that you bought a car from Mike Brewer.

Cons:

- He's a wheeler dealer.

- I don't know much about used car pricing in Britain, but he might be able to charge a premium simply because you're buying a car from Mike Brewer. A celebrity tax, if you will.

- Inventory seems kind of drab - plenty of late model rides with low miles in very nice condition. Lots of Skoda Yetis. They like Skoda Yetis at Mike Brewer Motors. I don't see any Edd China-restored Triumphs or Camaros. :(

- Have to go to Sheffield.

- Probably won't get to meet Mike Brewer.

Bonus Follow-Up: Would Edd China be your mechanic?

I would if and only if Edd China would be my mechanic.

Mike is a mechanic in his own right, a lot of his "I dunno 'bout car stuffs" is a charade. I'd buy from him, I certainly trust Edd's work, and he does seem to negotiate on his price pretty frequently. Plus, you'd get a car you can watch the episode on and see what they did!

Would you buy a car from Clint Bowyer the Nascar driver?

Saab 96, absolutely. Nothing I see on that page is appurtenant to my interests, though.

Or what they didn't do.... :)

"Oh man... I was hoping they replaced the A-arm bushings while they were in there."

but at least you'd know. Also the typical sellers line of "just did the timing belt" which actually means "had a look, belt was still there and still black in colour, so I left it alone" could be proved right or wrong by watching the episode :)

anyway, moot point, the link to his dealership is not cars from the show, but I doubt you'd be buying from Mike at the dealership, so I stand by my statements, I'd buy from Mike IF it were a car from the show

No. I wouldn't from John Elway, either . "Celebrity" car dealers kind of make me uncomfortable.

For the record, I probably would if something in his inventory piqued my interest - normally, celebrity car dealerships seem like a gimmick, but I like to think that Mike knows what he's doing.

And as for Edd China - definitely, especially if I could hang around the shop and learn some top tips.

Good choices. Manual diesel wagon FTW! Any particular reason you wouldn't buy from Mike?

No concrete reason. Just a general sense that he's not all he portrays and would find a way to wriggle out of responsibility for a problem if it arose.

Also, I like that the show features small shops and craftsmen specializing in repairs and parts for the cars they rebuild on WD.

So you figured all this out from a 'reality' tv show?

I never claimed hard evidence or unassailable logic.
